Q: Who is doing credible and robust journalism that informs and engages society on environmental issues, every day?
A: Members of the Society of Environmental Journalists

Dear Colleague,

The Society of Environmental Journalists stands on the threshold of our community's 20th anniversary. With SEJ's help, our members have been providing coverage of the environment for the past two decades.

It hasn’t been easy getting here, particularly at a time when the news business is in dire straits, but SEJ’s two-decade long commitment to educating journalists on the beat — and doing it with integrity — has kept SEJ healthy, even as journalism budgets everywhere shrink.

Your financial support for SEJ will ensure that we continue our work — all the more important as new journalists, reporting over new platforms, take up the story of the century. That story stretches from the air to land to water, to all the human activities that rely on nature’s services, planet-wide. SEJ helps journalists tell that story with a solid grounding in science, and the ability to connect policy to the lives of the people most directly affected.

There’s never been a more important time to invest in SEJ.

Environmental policy is at a transformative moment. The U.S. Congress and world leaders are poised to begin cutting climate change emissions and embracing new energy sources. Our members’ audiences are growing increasingly scientifically literate, and there is a hunger for informed and trustworthy news about environmental issues.

SEJ helps journalists tell the story of the century through high-impact projects including annual conferences, regional events, a comprehensive Web site, journalism awards, EJ Today daily news digest, bi-weekly Tipsheet, FOI WatchDog, quarterly SEJournal, and SEJ Reporters’ Guide to Climate Change with the latest regional science and sources. SEJ’s Freedom of Information Task Force defends reporters’ right to know what government is doing and what taxpayer-supported science is saying about our environment. SEJ is also helping journalists develop new media skills and adapt to changes in the news industry

Your support is critical to keeping these and other programs alive as SEJ enters its 20th anniversary year. Please give what you can this holiday season. Please make your donation now or  download a form to fill out on your computer, print and mail or fax to SEJ.

Please give today — and thank you for your continued support of SEJ.

Sincerely,

Christy George
