  • The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund and Reuters annually award two $5,000 prizes, one to a local reporter in a developing country or nation in transition, and the other to a freelance journalist covering international news, to recognize independent and professional reporting that sheds new light on controversial issues. Apply by May 31, 2013.
  • This Radio Television Digital News Foundation program offers cash awards to beginning radio and television journalists who are employed in electronic journalism and have 10 years or less experience in the field. Apply by May 31, 2013.
  • Choose from eight 2-week 2012 residency programs for environmental writers, in Point Reyes Station, CA. Room and most dinners are provided at no cost. The program is open to both experienced and emerging writers. Deadlines: December 14, 2012 for Spring 2013; June 3, 2013 for Fall 2013.

  • A Summit on Private Environmental Governance: Facing the Challenges of Voluntary Standards, Supply Chains and Green Marketing

    The conference will identify, for stakeholders across affected industries and NGOs, how sustainability initiatives, standard-setting, consumer protection and competition law work together in this important and rapidly developing area. Hosted by the Environmental Law Institute in Washington, DC.

  • The International Reporting Project is accepting applications until June 14th from U.S. journalists for a media reporting trip to Kazakhstan, a huge but little-known Asian country whose government has been active in global nuclear nonproliferation talks. The trip, August 3-14, 2013, is a unique opportunity to visit a key country of 17 million persons bordering Russia and China.

  • DEADLINE: The John Alexander Project's Above the Fray Fellowship

    The Above the Fray fellowship is designed to give a promising journalist the opportunity to cover important but under-reported stories from a location abroad. The fellow will be selected based on a winning proposal to report from a region lacking significant mainstream media attention. The selected individual will spend three months filing on-air and online stories for NPR. Apply online by July 1, 2013.
  • DEADLINE: Fund for Environmental Journalism (FEJ) Mini-Grant Opportunity

    The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) through its Fund for Environmental Journalism (FEJ) is able to offer a third year of mini-grant opportunities in support of reporting projects and entrepreneurial journalism ventures related to the environment. Deadline for the Spring 2013 cycle is July 15th.
