The Swarm Inside: Making Sense of the Microbiome

Event Date:
September 27, 2016

Please join us Tuesday, either online via live webcast or in person at New York University, for a lively conversation about the myriad microbes that make us tick with science writer (and now bestselling author) Ed Yong and the eminent microbial geneticist and museum curator Susan Perkins.

The event is the first this fall in our continuing series of Kavli Conversations on Science Communication sponsored by the Kavli Foundation and the Science, Health and Environmental Reporting Program at NYU.

After the public conversation ends at 8 p.m., Ed Yong will be available to sign his new book, I Contain Multitudes: The Microbes Within Us and a Grander View of Life. Ed's publisher will be selling copies on site. The New York Times called I Contain Multitudes "infectiously enthusiastic" and an "excellent, vivid introduction to the all-enveloping realm of our secret sharers". Wired called the book "beautiful, smart, and sometimes shocking."

As with all Kavli Conversations, appetizers and drinks will start at 6 p.m. if you are able to join us in person. If not, please log into the live video webcast 6:30 at journalism.nyu.edu/kc, and please use Twitter (hashtag #kavliconvo) to ask questions and comment on the scussion, which will be led as always by our moderator Robert Lee Hotz, science writer at The Wall Street Journal and a distinguished writer in residence at the Carter Institute of Journalism at NYU.

See you in person or online!
