The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund and Reuters annually award two $5,000 prizes, one to a local reporter in a developing country or nation in transition, and the other to a freelance journalist covering international news, to recognize independent and professional reporting that sheds new light on controversial issues. The Southern Environmental Law Center is now accepting submissions for its annual Reed Environmental Writing Award, which seeks to enhance public awareness of the value and vulnerability of the natural environment in at least one of the following states: Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, or Virginia.
