J-Groups Urge Supreme Court To Toss Va. Ban on Out-of-State FOIA Requesters

Should state freedom-of-information laws disqualify people or organizations from out of state from getting government records? Led by the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press, some 53 news media groups have urged the US Supreme Court to say no.

"Coal-Ash Pollution at Three Maryland Landfills To Be Cleaned Up"

"The operator of three coal-fired power plants in Maryland has agreed to pay a total of $2.2 million in penalties and fix long-standing pollution problems at the landfills in Southern Maryland and Montgomery County where it disposes of the ash from those plants, according to court documents."

The Year Ahead in Environment and Energy: Stories to Watch in 2013

A panel of veteran journalists, hosted by SEJ and the Wilson Center's Environmental Change & Security Program, will offer their thoughts on what will be the biggest environment and energy stories in the U.S. and around the world on January 25th, 3-5 p.m. in Washington, DC (also available via webcast). Bloomberg BNA's Director of Environmental News John Sullivan will kick off the discussion with an overview of the key legislative, regulatory, and legal developments expected in 2013. Margie Kriz Hobson of E&E Publishing's EnergyWire will moderate the panel.
