Keystone, Coal Ash Dropped from Compromise Transport Bill Deal

"Congressional Republicans and Democrats reached a tentative agreement on Wednesday on a two-year bill to finance highways, ending a partisan stalemate that had left transit projects under a cloud of uncertainty."

"

The bill, which would provide $8.4 billion each year, is similar to a bipartisan measure passed by the Senate earlier this year. House Republicans worked on their own ambitious and unwieldy bill that never even made it to the floor for a vote.

In the agreement on Wednesday, House Republicans gave up on two key points: a provision that would have sped up the authorization of the Keystone XL pipeline and another that would have loosened restrictions on coal ash from power plants."
