"NOAA: Key Programs Zeroed Out, Research Cut Under Trump Plan"

"President Trump today called for a 16 percent reduction in the Commerce Department's budget, including the elimination of key programs within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Among the major cuts, Trump's fiscal 2018 budget would eliminate $262 million in funding for popular programs including the National Sea Grant College Program, which supports research at 33 universities nationwide.

Other programs to be zeroed out include the National Estuarine Research Reserve System, Coastal Zone Management Program grants, the Office of Education and the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund."
