Driving to #SEJ2017 in Pittsburgh?
NOTE: The Wyndham Grand Downtown Hotel offers valet parking only for $30 per night.
Our man on the ground, conference co-chair Don Hopey, has found the best options for you to park. Both are on the North Shore.
- West General Robinson Street Garage, 668 W General Robinson Street, 412-246-0120. Information and map.
- Gold 1 Garage, 792 West General Robinson Street, 412-323-4455 (next to Heinz Field). Information and map.
There's no problem parking overnight at the garages ($8 per 24 hours or portion thereof). You can drive in when you arrive and drive out Sunday, leaving your car in the garage for the whole time, even Sunday during the Steelers game — *if* you are already in the garage. So, for example, your cost would be $40 for Wednesday morning through Sunday afternoon. However, if you drive to Phipps Conservatory for the Sunday morning program, then try to get back into the garage, you'll be required to pay the event fee (also, coincidently $40).
The West General Robinson garage is the easier parking site because it's closer to the pedestrian walkway across the Ft. Duquesne Bridge (good option in good weather, about a 12-15 minute walk) or the North Side T station (attached to the garage), which is free to the Gateway T station (one stop under the river), located a half block from our hotel, the Wyndham Grand Downtown.
Gold 1 Lot is a long block away from the General Robinson Garage and the T station, but easily walkable to that T station or the Allegheny Station T stop on the back side of Heinz Field, also free to the Gateway T stop.
The owner of the garage tells us that the Gold 1 lot doesn't fill up so there should always be spaces available. The West General Robinson lot fills most days except Friday.
Therefore, you may want to go to General Robinson lot first, and if it's full go to Gold 1.
On the off chance that both garages are full, parking is also possible in the surface lots adjacent to the Gold 1 Garage and across General Robinson Street in the lot behind the Post-Gazette Building (you'll see the ye olde script in signage on the building). Rates vary from $8 to $10 a day.
