In 2003, an environment category (including medical or health stories) was added to the National Association of Black Journalists' Salute to Excellence Award Program. This was created as part of the diversity grant project collaboration between SEJ and minority j-groups. NABJ awards prizes for journalism that best covers the black experience or addresses issues affecting the worldwide black community. Open to all media organizations and individuals involved in print, broadcast and/or online journalism media. Submissions must cover people or issues of the African/African American Diaspora. Work must have been published between January 1st and December 31st of the previous calendar year. Deadline: Apr 15, 2016.
