Society of Toxicology Annual Meeting

This conference will focus on the science behind environmental poisons and factors that can confer extra vulnerability. Topics to be covered include: aging as a determinant of susceptibility to toxicants; gender differences in poisoning responses; phthalate risks; silica and asbestos immunotoxicity; the fetal basis of adult disease; nanomaterials--mechanisms of action; lessons learned from melamine contamination of infant formulas; inhaled particles--can they reach the brain; and toxicants that can enter through skin.

Arctic Coastal and Marine Spatial Planning and the Role of the Arctic People

The Knight Digital Media Center delivers hands-on, newsroom-focused computer training for mid-career journalists and editors. The workshops — delivered to accepted fellows at no charge — are funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation and are held at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism. This year, the KDMC will deliver five multimedia and two Web 2.0 training workshops (one for editors, one for reporters). Each workshop accepts 20 applicants.
