SEJ Board Votes To Change Bylaws for New Student Category and Removal of Gendered Language

On Monday, October 19, 2020, the Board of Directors of the Society of Environmental Journalists voted unanimously to make changes to SEJ’s bylaws that would allow for a new student category and remove gendered language. These changes stem in part from discussions on SEJ listservs, which the board heard and recognized.

As per our bylaws, the vote passed the board with the required two-thirds majority.

The next step needed to enact these changes is for the ballot questions to receive affirmatives on two-thirds of the votes of members entitled to vote in the 2020 election.

Today, Wednesday, October 21, 2020, all members eligible to vote in the Active, Associate and Academic categories will receive a ballot with the bylaws question, detailing all of the proposed changes. In addition, the ballots sent to Active members will include the slate of this year’s candidates for Active seats on the board of directors.

Members should also have received an announcement with details and FAQs about the changes.

Ballots will be due by the Annual Membership Meeting on Saturday, November 21, 2020. Please vote!
