It's starting to happen!
This past weekend was the kickoff for noticeable improvements in SEJ's website.
This is merely step one of a multi-step redesign process, but folks should notice now some immediate improvement of how some sections of the website function.
Here's the poop from Russ Clemings, SEJ'S web guru:
Large parts of the SEJ website, including all of the members-only content, were moved to a new computer system on Saturday, May 24, 2008. Also included in the move were all the databases: Awards, EJToday, Environmental Events Calendar, Environmental Journalism Gallery, Fellowships/Workshops, SEJournal, TipSheet, Useful Links, and WatchDog TipSheet.
SEJ email services, including SEJ-talk and other listservs, are unaffected by the move. For the most part, the members website looks about the same since the move.
However, for members who have changed their passwords from what they were originally issued by the SEJ office, there will be a slight inconvenience. For technical reasons, the changed passwords can not be recovered from the previous system. As a result, your originally issued password will be restored.
If this affects you, you can retrieve your password at this location: http://members.sej.org/forgot.php
You will be asked to enter your first name, last name, and email address as they are listed in SEJ's official records. If you do so, a link to your username and password will be sent to that email address. After you have logged in with that password, you can change it.
The transition went well. Testing for problems is still ongoing. If you find areas of the website not functioning properly, please contact SEJ web content manager Cindy MacDonald. For password or login issues, please follow instructions at the link provided above. We appreciate your patience.
Many many thanks to Russ and the NICAR team for their patient and rigorous work taking SEJ.org from the 20th Century's Lotus Notes to the 21st Century!
Onward to Phase 2!
