About Me I am a Toronto-based freelance writer who specializes in stories about the environment, renewable energy and future technologies. I contribute a weekly “Green Wheels” column on cars and the environment to the Toronto Star’s Wheels section and write articles for publications including Cottage Life, Alternatives Journal, BioCycle, Canada’s History Magazine, ON Magazine, Corporate Knights, the National (Abu Dhabi), the International Federation of Environmental Journalists web news service and J-source. I also consult and write for programs related to United Nations agencies. In June 2008, I completed 19 years at the Star, where I was at various times an environment and business reporter and feature writer, and also held several editing positions. My career began at the Ottawa Citizen. I edited News of the North, in Yellowknife, where I began covering the environment in earnest. I launched a successful weekly in Fort McMurray, was Alberta Legislature columnist for the Edmonton Sun, then, worked as environment reporter and Queen’s Park bureau chief at the Canadian Press. I have contributed numerous feature articles to Canadian Geographic magazine, was published in Maclean’s and Reader’s Digest, and have edited two books. I have been nominated for a National Newspaper Award, was short-listed in the short story competition at the CBC Literary Awards and am widely recognized for my ability to present complex ideas in clear and compelling language.
