SEJ Petitions Biden/Harris To Restore Government Openness and Respect for Journalists

On Jan 21, 2021, SEJ wrote President Biden and Vice President Harris, petitioning them "to commit your administration to restoring openness and transparency throughout the federal government, and by your words and actions, to help restore respect for the vital role journalists play in our democracy" and providing concrete steps to do so. SEJ Awards for Reporting on the Environment

SEJ's 20th annual Awards honor the best environmental journalism in 10 categories, bringing recognition to the stories that are among the most important on the planet. Prizes of $500 for first-place winners and $250 for second-place winners in all categories. Includes a Student Reporting category and a $10,000 cash prize for the Nina Mason Pulliam Award for Outstanding Environmental Reporting. To honor the "best of the best," first-place winners selected this year from SEJ's 10 awards categories will be automatically entered into the Nina Mason Pulliam Award. NEW DEADLINE TO ENTER: March 1, 2021. Late entry is allowed, with extra fee, until March 15.

01/13/2021 – A Philadelphia Inquirer investigation into environmental harm suffered by the city’s children, minorities and poor dived into the “decaying infrastructure” of the city schools. The result? Findings of dangerous levels of lead, mold and asbestos, followed by an influx of funding to fix the problems and awards from journalism colleagues.
