Workshops and Fellowships

The Alicia Patterson Foundation awards fellowship grants of $40,000 for 12 months and $20,000 for six months (including at least one for science or environmental topics) to working journalists to pursue independent projects of significant interest and to write articles based on their investigations. Apply by Oct 1.

The International Center for Journalists is accepting applications until August 10th from U.S. journalists under 30 years of age to take part in the first round, Nov 26-Dec 20, 2012, of the Young Media Professionals Exchange Program, a two-year initiative between the United States and Russia, funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Fellowships (academic year, fall or spring) are awarded to scholars who have demonstrated achievement in advanced post-doctoral study. A limited number of designated fellowships for scholarship concerning nature, environmental history or ecological concerns may be available. Apply by Oct 3, 2024.

The Radio Television Digital News Association offers scholarships for outstanding students and fellowships for young professionals (<10 years experience in the field) pursuing careers in radio, television, or online news. Two fellowships are given to promising minority applicants. Deadline: Jan 16, 2025.

Internews' Earth Journalism Network (EJN) and O Eco have developed a Fellowship program to bring journalists to the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, to be held June 20-22, 2012 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Apply by April 25th.

The Third International Symposium on the Ocean in a High CO2 World (OHCO2W) takes place September 24-27, 2012 in Monterey, Cal. Scientists, experts, decision-makers, and ocean advocates from around the world will gather to discuss the latest research in ocean acidification. Apply by May 1st for a fellowship to cover travel and accommodation costs.
