The Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma program at Columbia University in NYC, Jul 29-Aug 3, 2025, is designed for senior and mid-career journalists who wish to deepen their knowledge of emotional trauma and psychological injury, and improve reporting on violence, conflict and tragedy. Backed by the resources of Marquette University and the Pulitzer Prize-winning Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the fully funded academic-year fellowships allow newsroom professionals to do the best work of their careers on issues of vital importance while they also mentor the next generation of journalists. This fellowship finances a significant foreign reporting project by a Canadian journalist (or non-Canadian holding valid work permit or grad student) working as a freelance or full-time journalist in any medium. The fellowship provides up to $25,000 to cover travel, reporting and research expenses. Apply by Jan 12, 2026.

Journalists: Apply for the Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources' expenses-paid Detroit River Institute, which will explore natural resource, agricultural, economic and human health issues in and around Detroit, Michigan on October 22-26, 2014. Content of the fellowship program will be relevant to journalists working throughout North American cities. Apply by Sep 12.

The National Press Foundation and Fudan University are collaborating to offer a 10-day, all-expenses-paid fellowship in Shanghai, China for U.S. journalists, Nov 13-22, 2014. Meet with scholars, business leaders and Chinese journalists in and around Shanghai to explore issues such as China’s globalizing economy; air and water pollution and the growth of “green” industry; the impact of an aging population; and more.
