The Alicia Patterson Foundation awards fellowship grants of $40,000 for 12 months and $20,000 for six months (including at least one for science or environmental topics) to working journalists to pursue independent projects of significant interest and to write articles based on their investigations. The International Center for Journalists is accepting applications until August 10th from U.S. journalists under 30 years of age to take part in the first round, Nov 26-Dec 20, 2012, of the Young Media Professionals Exchange Program, a two-year initiative between the United States and Russia, funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.

Fifteen fellows, chosen from US professionals 40 years or younger, will complete a 9- to 12-month professional development program consisting of high-level work phases in major German institutions and a traveling, European-wide seminar series. The Third International Symposium on the Ocean in a High CO2 World (OHCO2W) takes place September 24-27, 2012 in Monterey, Cal.
