Mexico Moves Toward Federalizing Crimes Against Journalists [27]

The Mexican Senate on March 13, 2012, approved a constitutional amendment making attacks on journalists a federal crime — which would help journalists bypass possibly corrupt local police officials. The measure must now be approved by a majority of Mexico's state legislatures.

DEADLINE: Knight-Risser Prize for Western Environmental Journalism [31]

Up to $10,000 is available to support an enterprise or investigative environmental story set in the western United States, which is defined as all states west of the Mississippi River, including Hawaii and Alaska. Applications open May 6, and close June 2, with a winner selected in early July 2026.
