Since 1950, the Sidney Hillman Foundation awards the annual Hillman Prizes in Journalism,  honoring journalism that fosters social and economic justice. The categories include books (non-fiction), newspaper, magazine, web, opinion/analysis, broadcast journalism (includes television and radio), and photojournalism. The contest is open to journalists and subjects globally, although work must be published in the U.S. Each winner is awarded travel to New York City to receive a certificate and $5,000 prize. The Hillman Foundation also awards the The Sidney,  given monthly for an outstanding piece of socially-conscious journalism. Deadline: Jan 30, 2016.
