SEJ is honored to be receiving generous gifts for its mentor program [2] through the Elyssa Rosen Memorial Fund. SEJ will allocate these donations to mentoring activities for journalists, including a mentoring fellowship program [3] that will underwrite travel costs for a mentor-mentee pair to meet up at SEJ’s 2014 Annual Conference [4] in New Orleans, where they will gain valuable experience, strengthen their reporting, and build stronger relationships.

Elyssa Rosen [5]'s devoted fiancé, Matt Newberry, established the Fund in her memory.

Elyssa Rosen was a dedicated conservationist whom SEJ members and friends may remember meeting at the annual conference in Montana [6] in 2010. She was working to establish marine reserves in the Southern Oceans of Antarctica when she passed away suddenly in a diving accident in the Tinderbox Marine Reserve off the coast of Tasmania, Australia, in October 2013.
