"LG&E Seeking Permits for Waste Ash Pile Near Ohio" [1]

"A new mountain of ash and other waste from coal burning would rise next to the Ohio River as part of an LG&E plan to replace a nearly 30-year-old dump that's almost full.

The proposed 60-acre, $54 million dump at the Cane Run Road power plant would eventually extend as high as a 14-story building in an area now largely occupied by transmission lines.

LG&E has applied for permits from state agencies and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which would need to approve the company's plan to fill two small wet areas and about 3,000 feet of stream."

James Bruggers reports for the Louisville Courier-Journal April 8, 2010.
