Journo Groups File Brief in Corporate Privacy Case [1]

November 17, 2010

The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press and 22 other news media groups filed a friend of the court brief in a case that could have broad impact on how much news media can learn about corporate behavior.

The groups intervened in a case where AT&T had challenged the Federal Communications Commission's ruling that exemption 7c of the Freedom of Information Act did not apply to AT&T. Exemption 7c protects personal information in law enforcement records. The company appealed, arguing that corporations had a right of personal privacy. The Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the case January 19, 2011.
