Journalists, think tanks, and advocacy groups all gave low marks to the Obama administration's performance under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) at a House hearing June 2 and 3, 2015. This despite President Obama's inaugural vow to run the "most transparent administration ever."

To be sure, some GOP members of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (chaired by Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-UT) did use the occasion to score partisan points (think: Hillary Clinton e-mails). But many serious FOIA advocates used the occasion to demand more openness.
