Obama Administration Gets Only So-So Openness Grades for 2012 [1]

September 19, 2012

For an administration that trumpeted its open-government agenda on its first day in office, the Obama administration has not lived up to all the heightened expectations. A new annual report card spells out some of the details.

OpenTheGovernment.org, a watchdog group devoted to freedom of information, has annually rated the federal executive branch on its performance. This year's report, "Sunlight Overshadowed: Secrecy Report 2012," was released September 11, 2012.

The report notes that "as FOIA requests increased by 5%, processing sped up, but backlogs grew by 20%."
