NY Supreme Court Orders ExxonMobil To Produce Climate Documents [5]

"In a loss for ExxonMobil, the New York State Supreme Court has ordered the oil giant and its accounting firm to produce documents subpoenaed in a highly charged investigation of whether the company concealed from investors and the public what it knew about climate change as long as four decades ago."

Got Coal Ash? Southeast Database Helps Watchdog Power Plants [7]

Another database upgrade that will help environmental journalists is available from the group Southeast Coal Ash. This database site covers Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

You Aren't Allowed To Know How Much of Your Coal Is Being Sold (Cheap?) [9]

The vast coal seams below federally owned lands in the West are a resource owned by the American people as a whole — and when rights to mine them are sold to coal companies, it is supposed to be on terms that are in the public interest. SEJ Objects To Prosecution of Journalists Covering Pipeline Protests [11]

UPDATE: The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) on Oct 19, 2016 wrote law enforcement officials at the state and federal levels, objecting to prosecution of journalists who have been covering protests against the Dakota Access Pipe Line and other pipelines. The prosecutor who charged Democracy Now's Amy Goodman has responded to SEJ's letter.

SEJ Mourns Loss of Long-time Member Bob Weinhold [12]

Bob Weinhold, an SEJ member from 1999 - 2015 and TipSheet reporter, died on June 6, 2016, after a 25-year battle with environmental illnesses.

"Looking Out For No. 2: Dogs Sniff Out Fecal Pollution" [15]

"Some specially trained dogs are helping humans curb themselves. A company that has trained dogs to recognize the smell of human fecal bacteria has been sniffing out sources of water pollution nationwide, discovering broken sewer pipes, leaking septic tanks and illegal sewage discharges, to the delight of environmental groups and government agencies."

"UK Water Firms Call For 'Do Not Flush' Labelling On Wet Wipes" [17]

"UK water companies are urging the national trading standards body to help stamp out “misleading” labelling on disposable wet wipes that are marketed as flushable but clog up drains and litter oceans at huge environmental cost."
