SEJ members mourn the passing of David Sachsman, the George R. West Jr. Chair of Excellence in Communication and Public Affairs at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, on October 6, 2022.

David was an SEJ member since 1993. He co-chaired two annual conferences in Chattanooga: 1998 [2], with chair Peter Dykstra of CNN, and 2013 [3], with chairs Anne Paine (retired, The Tennessean in Nashville) and Chattanooga Times Free Press environment reporter Pam Sohn.

David was a member of the SEJournal Editorial Board from 2003 until it was disbanded in 2016 and reconstituted as the SEJ Editorial Advisory Board.

He co-authored the 2020 "Routledge Handbook of Environmental Journalism [4]" with fellow SEJer JoAnn Valenti.
