Meet SEJ member Bilal Motley! Bilal, an award-winning filmmaker from Chester, Pa., has been featured in CNN, Variety and The Philadelphia Inquirer. His work focuses on environmental justice and class dynamics. His 2020 debut, "Midnight Oil [2]," a BlackStar Film Festival Official Selection and Doc Society NYC grantee, was acquired by Black Public Media. His short, "Quarantine Kids [3]," won the 2022 Philadelphia Filmmaker Award at BlackStar Film Festival and Best Short Documentary at the March on Washington Film Festival. Bilal’s latest project, "Trash & Burn [4]," documents the fight against America’s largest trash incinerator in Chester, a Black community impacted by decades of industrial pollution. The film has screened at Cal Berkeley, Villanova University, Swarthmore College, Philadelphia City Hall and the Backyard Doc Film Festival.
