Meet SEJ member Sarah Sax! Sarah is an award-winning freelance journalist and video producer based in Brooklyn, NY. She covers environmental change and climate justice, with a soft spot for stories at the intersection of food production, land rights and climate change. Her work has appeared in outlets such as The Guardian, High Country News, Orion Magazine, The Washington Post, Mongabay, WIRED and Undark. Sarah was the series producer on Planet A, a Vice News docuseries on climate change. She is a grantee of the Economic Hardship Reporting Project, Type Investigations, the Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources and was a climate justice reporting fellow at High Country News (fellowship funded by SEJ). Her recent investigation "Unbearable Heat [2]," which looked at the impact of the 2021 Pacific Northwest heatwave on incarcerated people in Washington State as well as the Department of Corrections' response, won this year's Front Page Award in the magazine category for best investigative reporting.

"SEJ has been an incredibly important resource for everything from finding grants and workshops, to getting tip sheets and reporting tips. The annual conference has been especially invaluable for networking with other journalists and editors — plus, it's always really fun to attend," Sarah said. Join her — apply for SEJ membership [3].
