Mix and mingle with internationally renowned marine and climate scientists in town for the Effects of Climate Change on the World's Ocean Symposium [1]!
COMPASS, ECCWO, and the Kingdom of Norway are cosponsoring an evening reception and live pitch pit event as part of the symposium. You’ll meet scientists from around the world, and learn about new and surprising climate and ocean science.
At 6:30pm, the reception will kick off with light appetizers and cash bar.
At 6:45pm, Norway will provide information about the Nansen Legacy Initiative, a new, multi-year science initiative to understand the causes and consequences of changing Arctic ocean ecosystems.
At 7:30pm, COMPASS will host a “Pitch Pit” in Plenary Hall, where scientists will take the stage and deliver a 2-minute story idea about their research to journalists and colleagues. Journalists will ask questions, share their thoughts on “what’s the story?” and offer helpful feedback to the presenters.
Journalist “talent” will include Chris Joyce of NPR, Alok Jha, Wellcome Fellow and the Guardian, Jessica Leber of Oceans Deeply, David Malakoff of Science, and Laura Helmuth of the Washington Post.
All journalists attending will be invited to “pitch in" and in return will be rewarded with free drink tickets.
