"An EPA survey of drinking water utilities revealed that they need nearly half a trillion dollars in infrastructure upgrades during the next two decades.

The congressionally mandated survey uncovered $472.6 billion in needs, a 23 percent increase since the release of the last survey in 2013.

The Environmental Protection Agency is required to conduct the survey once every four years. Its results are used to allocate the EPA’s State Revolving Fund program, which grants money to states to capitalize infrastructure..."
