IJA Tribal Nations Media Guide [1]

In October 2020, the Native American Journalists Association (now the Indigenous Journalists Association) published the Tribal Nations Media Guide [2], a reporting tool for covering Indigenous communities.

The Guide offers a context checklist to consider when reporting on Indigenous communities:

  • Government
  • Economy
  • Geography
  • Treaties
  • People
  • Culture

"No two tribal nations are the same, and reporting on them effectively requires understanding their respective government, people, history, art, and environment."
