2014 David Stolberg Meritorious Service Award Winner: Beth Daley [1]

This annual award recognizes an SEJ member for their exceptional volunteer work. The 2014 Stolberg award goes to Beth Daley, who has done a few different volunteer jobs over the years. Most recently she's worked tirelessly handling a complex set of tasks in a position that sounds like some kind of honor, but is really a lot of hard work.

Fund for Environmental Journalism Announces Summer 2014 Grantees [2]

Thanks to generous funding from the Grantham Foundation, and individual members and friends of the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ), we are pleased to announce grants totaling $9,760 to three journalism projects selected in SEJ’s Fund for Environmental Journalism Summer 2014 grant cycle.

"Government inspectors all over the country are supposed to ensure the meat we eat is safe. But according to a growing chorus of current and former inspectors - and a number of watchdog groups - the U-S meat inspection system isn’t doing its job."

"Coal Power Shows Zero Growth in 2014, Report Shows" [5]

"Natural gas and solar are the winners so far in 2014 in the race to move electric power generation away from coal, a new U.S. Energy Information Administration report shows. As utilities across the U.S. have added new electric power generating capacity, most of that added capacity has come from natural gas and solar. No new coal power-generating capacity has been added yet in 2014, though two small plants are expected to open this year in North Dakota and Mississippi."
