Highlights from the Fourth National Climate Assessment: Impacts, Risks, and Adaptation in the U.S.

On Nov. 23, 2018, the U.S. Global Change Research Program released the Fourth National Climate Assessment Vol. II [1]. The report is an authoritative assessment of the impacts of climate change on the U.S. and its territories, and was written to help decision-makers, utility and resource managers, public health officials, emergency planners, and other stakeholders better understand the effects of climate change on the United States.

This new report, also called NCA4, builds on the 2017 Climate Science Special Report [2] (CSSR), Volume I of the Fourth National Climate Assessment, which described observed trends in the global and U.S. climate, and projections for temperature, precipitation, sea-level rise, and Arctic sea ice for the remainder of this century. CSSR served as the scientific foundation for the NCA4, Vol. II that will be released.

Media can learn more about NCA4 at a special science session [3] at the American Geophysical Union Annual Fall meeting [4] on Tuesday, Dec. 11, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Room 202A of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Washington, D.C. Working members of the media may register here [5].
