"In the month since Chicago Public Schools started testing water in schools for toxic lead, results have shown elevated levels in more than two dozen buildings with hundreds of schools still to be tested.

With a series of community meetings scheduled around the city this week to discuss the issue, the Tribune talked to a number of public health experts about lead levels in the water and the potential effect on students.

While the experts said that lead in water is a cause for concern, Dr. Julie Morita, head of the city's Public Health Department, has made it clear that local cases of lead poisoning in children have not been linked to water and that overall rates of lead poisoning in children have plunged in recent decades."
