"U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson at a Senate hearing Tuesday outlined several changes to the agency's scientific review and assessment processes that reverse protocols enforced during the Bush administration.

Jackson testified before a joint hearing held by the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, along with the Oversight Subcommittee. The hearing reviewed actions taken by EPA to overhaul the agency's scientific decision making processes.

Senate lawmakers and other environmental experts who testified after Jackson praised the agency for swiftly making recommended changes. The most praised change was the agency's decision to overhaul its Integrated Risk Information System, known as IRIS, which assesses the toxicity of new chemicals to determine the risks associated with human health."
