"Feds Hammer Company For Idling School Buses" [1]

"Durham School Services will pay a $90,000 federal fine and do environmental projects worth $348,000 to settle charges that it routinely allowed its school buses to idle excessively in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. The company operates in 30 states and has one of the largest school-bus fleets in the nation."

"

Inspectors for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency reported that some buses were idling for more than two hours at schools in Storrs, Worcester, Mass., and Johnston, R.I. before moving to pick up school children, the EPA said in a news release Tuesday.

The EPA said it is trying nationwide to reduce the amount of diesel pollution that children breathe on school grounds."

Josh Kovner reports for the Hartford Courant April 10, 2012. [2]
