"Pope Francis next year will issue an edict urging the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics to take action to fight climate change.

The 50- to 60-page order will be presented as part of a speech Francis will give to the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York in September, The Guardian reported.

Bishop Marcelo Sorondo, the pope’s top scientific adviser, said the purpose of the edict is to influence countries in the U.N., as they try negotiate the first new international climate agreement in 20 years."
