"Most utilities have not implemented voluntary cybersecurity measures recommended by an industry organization that oversees reliability, according to findings from a report released this morning by two House Democrats who say they reveal gaps in the government's voluntary approach to cybersecurity."

"More than a dozen utilities reported being the targets of frequent cyberattacks, with one claiming approximately 10,000 attempts a month, according to the report out today from House Energy and Commerce Committee ranking member Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) and Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.). More than one public power provider reported being in a "constant state of attack" from entities trying to gain access to internal systems, the report says.

'The findings are sobering,' Waxman said this morning during an Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on cybersecurity."
