House De-Funds Greenhouse Gas Registry [1]

February 23, 2011

The House of Representatives voted Feb. 16, 2011, to drastically cut funds for EPA to collect information about the amount of greenhouse gases emitted by major industrial facilities.

As part of the continuing resolution (HR 1) the House approved largely along party lines an amendment sponsored by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) to cut an additional $8.5 million from the budget for EPA's Greenhouse Gas Registry. Republicans had previously cut $5 million from the program. The House bill would leave only $3.2 million for the remainder of fiscal 2011. The Registry is purely informational, and has no regulatory function.
