New York Times Editorial Calls for Release of CRS Reports [1]

July 1, 2015

The WatchDog has long whined about Congress' mystifying refusal to let taxpayers read reports the taxpayers have paid for. The Congressional Research Service (CRS) produces objective, nonpartisan, expert explainers on many key issues — including environment and energy.

Comes now the New York Times editorial board to say the same thing. A June 17, 2015, editorial in the Times called the situation "absurd." The Times expressed hope that a new director of the Library of Congress (home of the CRS) would manage to get the policy changed. But of course, he would need Congress' OK.

  • Editorial: "Congressional Research Belongs to the Public," [2] New York Times, June 17, 2015.
  • Previous Story: "House Insists Congressional Research Service Reports Be Secret," [3] WatchDog of May 20, 2015.
