#SEJSpotlight: Ashli Blow, Freelance Journalist [1]

#SEJSpotlight graphic for Ashli Blow

Meet SEJ member Ashli Blow! Ashli is an independent journalist who covers the intersection of environmental science, policy and justice. After several years at a breaking news desk in Seattle, reporting on natural and man-made disasters, she transitioned to focus on solutions journalism as a freelancer. Her reporting focuses on climate adaptation, pollution abatement and wildland fire management. Based in Eugene, Oregon — with deep roots in her hometown of Memphis — Ashli pays special attention to the experiences of frontline communities in the American West and Southeast United States. She holds a master’s degree in environmental policy, which has honed her ability to meticulously analyze and report on the evidence and limitations of climate solutions using empirically-derived frameworks.

When asked how SEJ membership makes her job easier, Ashli said, "Transitioning from a staff position to freelancing was a significant shift, and the resources and support from SEJ during that time proved invaluable. SEJ continues to provide a wealth of networking opportunities and learning experiences that have been instrumental in helping me uncover compelling stories and sustain my career as an independent journalist."
