"President Trump's pick for World Bank president agrees with him that climate action and economic growth are irreconcilable.

Trump appears poised to name David Malpass as the U.S. nominee to head the bank, a move that all but ensures Malpass would be president until 2024.

'He's very much a Trump crony,' said Alex Doukas, program director at Oil Change International. 'He's very, very aligned with Trump in many ways.'

Malpass joined the Trump campaign in May 2016, then worked on the transition before being tapped as the Treasury Department's undersecretary for international affairs. In that post, he oversaw U.S. representation on the boards of multilateral development banks like the World Bank and on bodies like the U.N. Green Climate Fund."
