"Agriculture: Peterson's Defeat Ends An Era, Rattles Rural Politics" [1]

"Policies affecting U.S. agriculture may be poised for a shake-up in Congress, following Election Day returns.

In one of the day's biggest political flips, House Agriculture Chairman Collin Peterson (D-Minn.) solidly lost his bid for reelection after a 30-year career in Congress, and a few other seats on the committee were either lost or in jeopardy for Democrats.

Change is coming in the Senate, too, where the retirement of Agriculture Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) looms, paving the way for a new chairmanship potentially by Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.).

Peterson's loss to Michelle Fischbach, a Trump-aligned Republican, was not a shock to political observers, given the president's strong performance in Minnesota's 7th District in 2016 and again this year."
