"A Republican senator said she supports resurrecting U.S. support of a United Nations fund that helps developing nations cut their greenhouse gas emissions and address climate impacts.

President Donald Trump has zeroed out funding for the Green Climate Fund, a top climate effort under the Obama administration. Congressional Republicans also have barred such funding in recent spending bills, but Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) said she disagrees with that approach.

“In my judgment, I would not put a prohibition on the use of that fund,” Collins told Bloomberg Environment, though she stressed it will be up to both chambers to decide “whether it belongs there.”

The Maine senator could be pivotal on any Green Climate Fund vote that comes before the Senate Appropriations Committee, where Republicans hold a razor-thin 16-15 edge—as long as all Democrats hold together on the issue."
