"The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee today [Monday] released the largest highway bill in congressional history, and it contains significant funding for addressing climate change.

The legislation, dubbed "America's Transportation Infrastructure Act," would provide $287 billion over five years for surface transportation programs.

That's a 27% increase over levels in the 2015 Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, which is set to expire in October 2020. Of the $287 billion total, a $259 billion chunk would be distributed to states by formula.

Another $10 billion slice would go toward combating climate change by boosting the resilience of projects and reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions from transportation."
