"The latest version of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) gives the Pentagon more time to use firefighting foam that contains “forever chemicals.”

Lawmakers on Sunday released a negotiated version of the annual defense authorization bill that resolves differences between the House and Senate versions.

Included in the measure is language from the House version of the bill that delays the phaseout of the use of “forever chemical”-laden firefighting foam by two years.

The 2020 NDAA required the military to stop purchasing foam with these chemicals by 2023 and stop using it by 2024, though the use through 2024 could be extended using waivers through 2026."
