"Aurelia Skipwith could make history at the Fish and Wildlife Service, but only after she revisits her past.

The first African American nominated to serve as FWS director, Skipwith enjoys the Trump administration's support while still facing resistance from some agency veterans and congressional Democrats who voice doubts about her qualifications and her frankness.

For now, Skipwith is continuing her work as the Interior Department's deputy assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks.

'She's very smart, she's a quick learner,' Rob Wallace, Interior's assistant secretary for fish and wildlife and parks, said in an interview this week. 'She'll be a great director when confirmed, and I have a great deal of respect for her.'"
