The Associated Press and Google offer a national scholarship program intended to foster digital and new media skills in student journalists. The Online News Association, the world’s largest membership organization of digital journalists, administers the program. Applicants must be U.S. citizens at least 18 years old. The Evert Clark/Seth Payne Award recognizes outstanding reporting and writing in any field of science by science writers age 30 or younger. Winner will receive $1,000 and expenses to attend the annual ScienceWriters meeting. Deadline: June 30 annually.

SWCC honors outstanding contributions to Canadian science writing with cash prizes of $1,000 in two categories (youth and general), as well as the $500 Paradigm Prize for Underrepresented Perspectives in Science Writing, selected from the shortlist of finalists. Deadline: Nov 7, 2025.

NABJ recognizes journalism that best covers the Black experience or addresses issues affecting the worldwide Black community. Many categories include a specialty for environment/health/medical issues. Deadline: Feb 14, 2025.

The Livingston Awards, for excellence by professionals under the age of 35, judge print, online, video, audio and data visualization entries. Three $10,000 prizes for local, national and international reporting. Deadline is Feb 1, 2025.

Awards are given for outstanding coverage that positively impacts the critical issues of hunger, poverty and self-reliance. Enter by February 24, 2011 deadline.

CAJ recognizes outstanding Canadian reporting — with a particular focus on investigative work. Cash prizes are offered in several categories, including Photojournalism, Environmental and Climate Change, Emerging Indigenous Journalist, FOI Journalism, Data Journalism, Student and more.
