DEADLINE: Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism

Event Date:
November 30, 2012

The Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism is offering short-term fellowships designed to help you make better use of new online tools and channels. This is your chance to update your skills and learn cutting edge strategies to reach broad audiences. In one intensive week, April 15-20, 2012, you'll come to Ohio State University and learn how to tell powerful online stories and to use social media to build a following, develop sources and more effectively cover your beats. We'll explore creative reporting uses of Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social media sites. We'll showcase strategies for backgrounding individuals and companies, as well as building your online following. We'll focus on the latest tactics for effective public affairs reporting: public records, documents and data. Plus, we'll explore creative uses for online tools such as Deep Web searches and free data visualizations. Training is provided free-of-charge, plus lodging, most meals and a travel stipend are included. Deadline: November 30, 2012.
