DEADLINE: Kyoto Prize Journalism Fellowship

Event Date:
February 28, 2019

The Kyoto Prize Journalism Fellowship is an ideal opportunity for North American journalists who have attained a level of excellence in their field and who hope to advance their knowledge in the areas of technology, sciences and the arts. The program is designed for professional writers and editors in print, radio and broadcast media, including freelance journalists, based in North America.

This fellowship provides unique learning opportunities related to the latest Kyoto Prize laureates and their work through lectures, workshops and access to the laureates themselves. Journalists will gain valuable understanding of the historical context of the laureates’ works and their impact on our world. The selected fellow will travel to San Diego, CA to attend the Kyoto Prize Gala, and subsequent events on March 19, 20, and 21, 2019.

The selected fellow is expected to create, with complete editorial freedom, a publicly-accessible article, story, essay, blog, or video examining the implications of the technology, science, or art manifested in the works of a current Kyoto Prize laureate. After it is published or broadcast, a copy of the finished work (or online link) should be provided to PLNU for fellowship archives and public access.

This fellowship pays for related travel expenses plus room and board and does not include a stipend. PLNU reserves all rights, at its sole discretion, to award, or not award, a 2019 Kyoto Prize Spring Journalism Fellowship.

Point Loma Nazarene University is pleased to make the Fellowship available as part of its mission to provide modern education in the sciences and reflective education in the arts, philosophy and society. Any North American based journalist is welcome to apply. Deadline to apply is February 28. Details and application form for the journalism fellowship.
