DEADLINE: Travel Fellowships for North American Congress for Conservation Biology

Event Date:
April 15, 2016

COMPASS is supporting travel fellowships for journalists to attend the Third Biennial North American Congress for Conservation Biology, July 17-20, 2016.  The conference will bring approximately 1000 top conservation scientists to Madison, Wisconsin, for field trips, workshops, symposia, and social events around the theme of Communicating Science for Conservation Action. To learn more, visit the conference website.

Our goal with this fellowship is to support journalist participation from a broad range of backgrounds and media, freelancers to editors, print to multimedia. Our expectation is that these stories will unfold over months and years to come, not just at the conference itself. Our hope is that the relationships formed between the journalists and scientists through this fellowship will yield long-term benefits for both, as new ideas are explored and new questions are asked.

The Fellowship will provide a travel stipend, a $50 per diem, and three nights of shared accommodation at the Hilton Madison – Monona Terrace (checking in Sunday, July 17 and checking out Wednesday, July 20; private rooms may also be arranged upon request, fellow will be responsible for difference in cost).  Fellows need to arrive in Madison, Wisconsin by 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 17th in order to check in and attend the opening plenary at 6 p.m. COMPASS will work with fellows to make specific determinations for travel awards. The total number of fellowships offered will depend upon available funding.

The application deadline has been extended to April 15, 2016 (was Apr 1); fellows will be announced mid-May.
