DEADLINE: Water/Science/Energy Journalist Trip to Israel

Event Date:
March 6, 2016

Water and Alternative Energy in the Desert

Friday, April 1 – Friday, April 8, 2016

At Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU), researchers and scientists are focused on pioneering new technologies to ensure that Israel is self-sufficient in its water needs. Not only does Israel today have a surplus of water, Israelis are exporting their technology and experience to all corners of the globe, including the United States. Through the University’s Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research and other departments, BGU continues to innovate, commercialize and make bold strides forward in water technology innovation and research.

We would like to invite you to experience this innovation firsthand as part of our journalist trip organized and sponsored by American Associates, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (AABGU). The 11th Annual Murray Fromson Media Mission is supported by award-winning former CBS news correspondent Murray Fromson and his wife, Dodi.

With this year’s focus on water technology and alternative energy research, we are confident you will return with many stories, expert sources and insight into how BGU is making its revolutionary technology accessible across the globe: from the desert for the world.

AABGU will cover all of your expenses, including airport transfers, beginning Friday, April 1, 2016 when the group departs for Ben-Gurion Airport, arriving on Saturday afternoon. The group will depart Israel from Ben-Gurion Airport on Thursday night, April 7, 2016 and arrive in the U.S. on Friday, April 8. Deadline to apply is March 6.

By showcasing research in myriad areas of environmental science and technology, we will demonstrate how the University is an engine of innovation, a cornerstone of Negev development and a growing institution of world renown.

As a participant on this trip, we would expect the following:

  • Story Commitments -We understand that you cannot guarantee your participation will result in publication/airing of stories. However, that should be your goal for participating in this trip. Please review the agenda carefully and ensure it is within your subject area. Before committing, we’re always available to discuss story angles, provide information and even arrange preinterviews in order for you to secure opportunities beforehand to the best extent possible.
  • Check Publication Policies Beforehand - Some reporters in the past have paid their own expenses. If publications for which you would like to write have restrictions, you may do so. In some cases, it may be worth the investment. Please determine this AHEAD of the trip to avoid having a story killed or having to reimburse us later.
  • Extending the Trip - As a not-for-profit organization, the trip is a significant expense for each person to participate. If you’d like to arrive earlier or extend the trip, you may do so providing you pay for all additional costs before and after the trip dates. Also, feel free to pursue other stories or additional reporting in Israel as well, but not during the dates of our trip.
  • Waivers - Participants will need to fill out and sign a medical clearance and liability waiver form.

I look forward to speaking with you further about the trip in the coming days. Please review the itinerary. As we get closer to the trip, it will be revised and updated.

Sincerely,

Andy Lavin
